Many lawsuits are concluded by judgment following trial on the merits or by case dispositive motions. Litigants not satisfied with the trial court result often appeal to a higher court. Success in the appellate courts requires specialized skills which include both legal scholarship and the ability to draft precise, simple and persuasive briefs. Thus, appellate work has evolved into a discrete practice area within the past two decades. Cotkin Law Group has always recognized the need for appellate expertise. The firm established its own in-house appellate practice shortly after it was founded in 1978. Our attorneys have produced a steady stream of appellate victories for the firm's clients, not only in the California Courts of Appeal and the California Supreme Court, but also in the Federal courts, including the Circuit Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. We are proud to have contributed to the development of law in many of our practice areas, including professional liability and coverage.
